Let’s sort it.
Start here before reaching out. Most issues have a quick fix – and if not, we’re right at the bottom of this page.
Care & Best Practice
A little maintenance goes a long way. These habits will keep your device running well and extend its life.
💧
After every use: rinse the device
Once your cycle is done, rinse the Crop DeTox unit under clean running water. Pay attention to the electrode plates on the underside – this is where mineral deposits can build up over time.
🥢
Hard water areas: clean electrodes monthly
If you’re in a hard water area (common across much of Australia), mineral deposits can form on the electrode plates and reduce performance. A monthly clean keeps things running optimally.
🔌
Charging: use the included cable and a standard USB adapter
Charge with the cable that came in the box. Use a standard wall adapter – avoid fast-charge bricks or laptop USB ports as the power output can be inconsistent.
📦
Storage: dry and cool
Store the device dry. Leaving it submerged or in a wet environment when not in use can accelerate wear on internal components. A bench or drawer is perfect.
🔄
Rotator disc: keep it clear
The rotator disc on V2.0 helps circulate the water for an even clean. After use, check that nothing is caught on it – stems, stickers, or debris from produce can occasionally get lodged.
⚠️
What to avoid
The Crop DeTox is designed for fresh produce in water – not for cleaning the device itself with detergent or bleach. Avoid submerging the charging port. Do not use with boiling or very hot water.
Charging Issues
The most common charging issues come down to the cable or adapter rather than the device itself. Work through these steps before assuming a fault.
Device isn’t charging at all
-
Check the cable connection at both endsUnplug and firmly re-seat the cable into both the device and the wall adapter. It should click or sit flush – a loose connection is the most common cause of no-charge issues.
-
Try a different wall adapterUse a standard 5V USB wall adapter (the kind that comes with a phone charger). Avoid fast-charge bricks, USB hubs, or laptop ports – the power output from these can be inconsistent and may not trigger charging.
-
Try a different USB cableCables fail more often than devices. Grab any compatible cable you have and test with that. If the device charges with a different cable, the included cable is the issue.
-
Check that the charging port is dryIf the device was recently used or rinsed, make sure the charging port is completely dry before plugging in. A few minutes in open air is enough.
-
Try a different power outletIf you’re using a powerboard or extension cord, plug directly into a wall outlet instead to rule out a power supply issue.
Charging slowly or indicator light behaving oddly
-
Switch to a standard USB adapterThe device charges at a standard rate – fast-charge adapters don’t speed things up and can cause inconsistent behaviour. A 5V/1A adapter is ideal.
-
Give it a full uninterrupted chargeIf the battery has been fully depleted, plug it in and leave it for a full charge cycle without interruption. The indicator light should change to confirm it’s complete.
-
Check the cable for damageA fraying, kinked, or damaged cable can cause intermittent charging. Inspect the full length of the cable – if in doubt, swap it out.
Device Not Turning On
If the device isn’t responding when you try to start a cycle, run through these checks in order.
No response when pressing the button
-
Check the batteryThe most common cause is a depleted battery. Plug it in for a full charge cycle, then try again. Even if you charged it recently, confirm the charge actually completed by checking the indicator light.
-
Make sure you’re holding the button correctlyThe device requires a firm press-and-hold to start – a brief tap won’t trigger it. Hold for 2-3 seconds and wait for the indicator light to respond.
-
Try a soft resetHold the button down for 10 seconds until the device resets. Release, wait a few seconds, then try starting a cycle again.
-
Check for water in the charging portIf the port is wet, the device may not power on as a protective measure. Let it dry fully in open air for 30 minutes before trying again. Do not use a hairdryer on the port.
Cycle stops partway through
-
Check the water level in the sinkThe device needs to be fully submerged to complete a cycle. If the water level drops (e.g. a slow drain), the device may pause or stop. Ensure your sink holds water securely.
-
Check the battery level before startingA low battery can cause the device to cut out before the cycle completes. If this is happening regularly, charge fully before use.
-
Try Gentle Mode for the next cycleIf the standard cycle is dropping out, try Gentle Mode. This uses less power and can help identify whether it’s a battery or electrode issue.
-
Clean the electrodesMineral buildup on the electrode plates can cause the device to cut cycles short. See the monthly cleaning step in the Care section above.
No Bubbles or Unusual Noise
Bubbling is the visible sign that electrolysis is working. Here’s what’s normal, and what to do if something seems off.
What a working device looks and sounds like
No bubbles at all during the cycle
-
Check the water levelThe electrode plates need to be fully submerged to generate electrolysis. Fill the sink so the device is fully covered.
-
Check device positioningThe device should be lying flat and fully submerged – not tilted against the side of the sink. If the electrodes aren’t making proper contact with the water, electrolysis won’t work effectively.
-
Clean the electrode platesMineral or limescale buildup is the most common cause of reduced or absent bubbling. Soak the device end in a 1:2 vinegar-to-water solution for 15-20 minutes, rinse well, then run a test cycle.
-
Try a fresh chargeA low battery can reduce the power delivered to the electrodes. Charge fully and try again.
Unusual noise
-
High-pitched or whining soundUsually caused by the device being in very shallow water. The rotator disc and electrodes need adequate depth to operate quietly. Check the water level – it should cover the device fully.
-
Rattling or clickingCheck that nothing is caught on the rotator disc. Produce stems, stickers, or debris can cause a rattling sound when the disc is spinning. Turn the device off, remove from the water, and check underneath.
-
No sound at all (but light is on)The rotator disc may not be spinning. If cleaning the disc doesn’t resolve it, this may indicate a hardware issue – submit a warranty claim at the bottom of this page.
Questions About the Water
A lot of what you see and smell during a cycle is the electrolysis process working exactly as it should. Here’s what’s normal.
The water looks cloudy or milky
There’s a smell during the cycle
There’s residue or foam in the water after the cycle
My produce tastes different / has an aftertaste
-
Check your rinse stepThe most common cause of any taste difference is skipping or rushing the rinse. After the cycle, rinse your produce under clean running water for 20-30 seconds. The Crop DeTox process leaves no residue – but the rinse step removes anything lifted during the cycle.
-
Check the cycle length usedIf you ran the 10-minute cycle on delicate produce (like berries), try the 6-minute cycle or Gentle Mode for softer produce instead.
